THE TREES OF LIFE
by: Charles Godfrey Leland
- HE city
belles in Autumn
- Their gayest garments don;
In Autumn, too, the forests
Put brighter vesture on.
- At night in snowy linen
The ladies sink to sleep;
In winter 'neath the snow-drifts
The trees seem slumbering deep.
- Oh! loves and leaves--among you
A man must walk with care;
How soon we're lost in forests!
How soon 'mong ladies fair!
