GARLAND, HAMLIN.
Born in West Salem, Wisconson, 1860; [died, 1940]. Mr. Garland
was chiefly known as a novelist, although he has written some
stirring poetry of the great West. His early youth was spent
in teaching in Illinois and in Boston at the School of Oratory,
but during this period he was also engaged in literary work which
he pursued exclusively after that time. His volume of poems,
"Prairie Songs," was published in 1893.
